Hey i have 2 Hong Kong warty newts in a 3 foot tank and they are fully aquatic with rocks breaking the waters surface so they can get out if they want.
But just lately i have them biting each other a lot, i have only seen this at feeding time but it could be happening other times too.
I don't know what sex they are and im wondering if i should split them or not.
They seem to be getting a lot more aggressive they even had a go at me the other day lol.
So what do you think i should do and do you know why they might be biting each other.
All help is appreciated.

Ed

I have just this second split them up because i saw one of them with the others leg in its mouth and now he has missing toes.
As far as i know these guy have always lived together.

P.hongkonghensis are territorial animals and they display agressive behaviour in order to keep those territories. While some individuals can live together given that they have enough space and cover, it´s common for them to behave like yours. Separating or upgrading to even larger tanks are the only options really...

My C. Orientalis bite each other a bit at feeding time too. But other times, they get along fine. I break them up by pushing them apart gently. Fortunately though, they never seem to sustain any injuries from it.
