HOB filter safe for juvie axie?

I got a new axolotl today and my first to i did not use a filter rather i did water changes often but i used sand in this one and unfilitered it left the water a littlemurkey so ipicked up a 10gallon tank filter as thats the size of the tank the juvie is in im just wondering if its safe because i remember fish being sucked into filters before and im very nervous.

How big is your juvie? Does the filter allow you to control the water intake or output?
Unless it's really small, the filter shouldn't be dangerous to it. You can also wrap spongy filter material over the intake if you're worried and your juvie is small.
