well, my taricha is doing wonderfully, his toe has grown back entirely, and i a thinking of ordering a turtle dock for him...how does everyone who uses these find them? Do they work well? Right now he has a mangrove looking ornament to climb out on, but i think he may enjoy flatter surfaces to lounge....any advice?

Personally, I do not own the turtle dock, although some people here have given it positive reviews. Somebody awhile ago did post though, that their newt got wedged between the dock and the glass of the tank and died. Just be careful that the newt cannot get caught in that gap.

That's very good to hear that your Taricha is recovering.

I can't imagine a turtle dock being detrimental as long as you keep it clean. I personally had problems with the paint coming off when I washed the ramp (it is mostly just styrofoam painted over)--however the materials were nontoxic.

I used the ramp with another species and kept it covered with java moss. The newts would use it once in awhile, mostly at night when they thought they would be safe in the "open."

There is an old thread discussing this (please, please do not necro it) if you are looking for more reviews and photos.

Zoo med also has the floating log. I use that in my Taricha tank. They love it.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
