My Axolotl has been hiding in her cave for over a day and is like to ask the group for the reason.

I just bought an expensive chiller because her water was too warm. I could tell because she was swimming around a lot. Earlier when I had her in a tub she actually escaped. So I cooled her water down to 60. Could it be too cold?

I also moved my HOB filter over a little bit so now there is water flow in a different place. Wondering if she’s afraid of it? When it was in the corner she never paid attention.

Any other ideas?

honestly, i think the temperature preferred by axolotls varies slightly based on the individual. my axoltol was kept at around 60-63, and her gills were small. she was less active and didnt eat as much. i brought it up to about 65-68 and her gills have fluffed right back up, her energy levels are better, and she eats more. some like it a bit cooler, some like It a bit warmer. I'd bring it up (gradually) to around 65 and see what happens

mine tend to hide during the day and come out at night, the only time any of them are out during the day is if they are hunting for extra food.

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail. I also asked this as an actual question in a thread in case anyone wants to answer it there instead of here
