I'm trying to find hides and aquarium ornaments for a 20 gal tank that I'm setting up for an axy. But the problem I'm having is most of the ones I'm seeing are much too small for an axolotl and more like the size you'd want for a beta fish.

Does anyone have any they especially like? I ordered one hide and there's no way an axy could get any use out of it! I might still use it since I'm planning on stocking some ghost shrimp too, but it was still a major disappointment, lol.

I am in complete agreement that its hard to find decent hides for axolotls!!!! What I ended up doing is a combination of this...

I bout 25kg of rainbow slate on ebay; this guy allows you to request larger sizes so you can make your own hides: 15 kg NATURAL RAINBOW SLATE STONE FOR AN AQUARIUM VIVARIUM TANK DECORATION ROCK | eBay

Another great option is this company; "Fennstones".

They sell a range of large hand chiseled slate hides which my axies love; I currently have several caves and tunnels set up in combination with the rainbow slate and it works a treat :)

I hope this helps!

PVC pipe! A friend of mine cut and sanded down a chunk of PVC pipe for me and Toothless just loves sitting in it! Super cheap too.

My leucistic is named Toothless!

I considered getting PVC pipe as I've seen several people say they use it. Currently, they have hides I made with the driftwood I purchased. I just hollowed out the sand under the curved parts to make little caves.
