I am new here and just wanted too post a pic of my tank and maybe get some feedback. I have 6 c. orientalis in there. 3 are aquatic and three hang out on plants out of the water . I have had these guys about 1 month. All eat earthworms I feed them from tweezers

Hello Cole
Wow I really like your set up! I think that your newts should feel quite happy in their new home!
I like to use tweezers also. That way I can make sure that all of my newts are eating and it also helps keep the water cleaner.
Good luck!

Yeah, i like tweezers too-my baby marbleds feed well off them! best of luck to you mate!

Thanks I really enjoy having them. Its a nice and relaxing hobby . I do worry abit about the 3 that dont go in the water though, they do eat quite well.

maybe you could give more land for the ones that are on the plants all the time. Newts need more land i think than pets sotres tend to give.

Hi Cole, I like your tank too. I wouldn't worry too much about the three that don't enter the water, that's pretty typical.

As Jessica suggested, I use floating corkbark to create an island. My cynops seem to enjoy it.

There is quite a bit of land for them. The log sticks out of the water, There is a fake fern with big leaves , and I also have a tutrle dock with a plant that sticks to the side of the tank behind the log so they can hide. I think they just like to climb in the plant so they can feel safely hidden. There is alot of activity in my house that might stress them

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
