I came to this site looking for information about how big axolotls get. I have a female that is about 3 years old and is a little over 13 inches long. My male is only about half that size. I know males are usually smaller than females when it comes to salamanders and other amphibians, but this seems extreme.

This is a great site! An abundance of information. I am also very happy to find so many people that have an appreciation for amphibians. I just love them all!

That's a monster axie! What do you feed her? Small children, neighborhood cats, goat sacrifice? lol

Average size is usually about 8 or 9 inches.

Kaysie, you nearly made me choke on my tea! lmao!

That is a humongous axolotl :D
I aspire to get mine to monsterous proportions like that :)

By the looks of things she's loaded with eggs! I expect your male maybe a little overwhelmed with the size of her to attempt any close contact for fear of ending up as dinner! Nice axie by the way!

Omg, that is the biggest axie I've ever seen. She could lay almost 1,000 eggs. Beautiful,.

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
