Hey help please!

Hey my 2 coylop tank, the so call paddletail newts, have all these white tiny very small worms all over the tiny, it use to have a little bit. But now it has increase, and its freaking me out, anyone know how to get rid of them!?. I test the water everything is normal! Duuno whats going on..? is it because of the waste?

Hi Itzchow,

It sounds like a Planaria worm outbreak. Planaria are flatworms, related to flukes and tapeworms. They won't harm your newts at all, but can eat any aquatic eggs. The safest way to remove the worms is to do water changes and be sure to siphon any gravel or sand in the tank to remove extra waste. Do twice a week water changes until the worms disappear from a lack of food, basically fecal material and excess food. If you want to remove them quickly you can use any copper medications but YOU MUST REMOVE ALL SNAILS AND NEWTS from the tank as copper is harmful to them. Copper will kill the worms off fast and multiple water changes should remove the copper rather well. I would suggest the first advice twice a week water changes is the safest thing for your animals.
