i'm not sure what is goin in there. The plan was a handful of CFB, but what else could go in there? Bombina orientalis? some other newt? suggestion plz

You should definitely get a mudpuppy or some other necturus species if its more than 20 gallons.

First thing I have to say is that clamp light has fire/electrocution hazard written all over it. Do you have a lid on that tank? Newts and sals are expert escape artists, not to mention that not having one makes that lamp even more dangerous.

Also, what sort of bulb do you have in there. It looks like an incandescent which will just heat up the water. That's something you certainly want to avoid. You'll want to switch to a compact fluorescent bulb or a regular fluorescent fixture to keep the heat down. You can easily buy a regular household compact fluorescent bulb for $2-$3 to put in that fixture.

As for newts, what do you want to keep? Pretty much any newt would be at home in their. Do you like Triturus marmoratus? Maybe some Taricha as suggested Notophthalamus or a Pachytriton sps. would work also. You get to add your favorite newt now. Make sure you get what you want.

Now that you bring up the fact about the lamp, I notice it too. I totally agree.

I know the lamp has to go. My next paycheck will be buying me a hood and a bulb. The lamp is leftover from my turtles, whom I recently gave to a friend of mine. Anyway, the tank is 20L. I'll look into all of the species you guys suggested. However, caudates are a bit of a rarity in my area...

Have you checked out kingsnake.com or gladesherps

Or the classified section of this site? There are many breeders on this website that can provide excellent animals.

You know what? I've never really tried that. I'll keep an eye out. Thanks all!
