Not sure what could be causing this or if I should be concerned. I'd never seen it before until about a week ago.

I did a 50% water change yesterday and after that
Ammonia less than 0.25
Nitrite is 0.5-1.0 (cycle is finishing up so it's higher than preferred)
Nitrate 5-10ish
Ph is about 8.0

Temperature fluctuates between 66-70 but usually is about 68
She's been eating normally. I recently switched from nightcrawlers to red worms (2 every other day) but she's had these before so I don't think that's the issue.

As far as I know no other symptoms of burns, fungus, or stress, and her activity levels seem normal as far as I can tell

She switched from a ten gallon to a 20 gallon on August 4th

having nitrites are bad, unlike ammonia which causes caustic burns etc.. nitrites enter the blood stream and prevent the bloods ability to carry oxygen.
ideal temperature is 15°c-18°c (59°f-64°f) cooler being better, higher temperatures can cause flushed appearance.
the warmer the temperature and higher the ph the more harmful ammonia gets.

I didn't know that about nitrites but this was happening before they started getting high so it's more likely the temperature. As for that, ik the ideal temperature range but it's been 100+ every day where I live so we've been changing out ice packs and having her fan at the highest setting and we're trying to save up for an aquarium chiller, but it's just gonna be a little higher rn

I’ve had my leucistic axolotl for almost two years now and his tail sometimes does this. It happens only when he’s trying to mate or when he’s overly active. It’s only reddish for a little and he always goes back to normal. My water levels have always been good and he is very healthy. It’s possible there is no issue at all :) To handle temperature better I put my tank in a very shaded area of my house and it works pretty well.
