I recently got the chance to take in an axie who wasn't being taken care of properly. I've had axies before but this one was an emergency given to me as the poor baby was definitely not being handled well. I just got him in today and had him in the fridge whilst I prepared his new home. Having placed him in it, I'm noticing a lot wrong with him and I wanna decide what's the best course of action to begin caring him back to good health.

In the photos attached, it looks like he definitely has degradation on his gills which I will assume was due to the poor water conditions he was in. How long does it typically take for them to grow back to full size? Mines never had an issue like this before. I'll strive to keep him in these better conditions and hopefully that aids his gills a bit.

I also noticed this strange red part near his tail. Looks to be blood? And yeah, I'm also seeing a bit of fungus clots on his coat. Gonna have to treat that too.

Overall, he seems very low and barely moving at the moment. Simply wagging his tail slowly or slightly moving his arm every now and then. I am worried he may be too far gone.

Anyone can offer some insights too I'd appreciate it. It's my first time taking in a rescue and I hope I can help this little guy out. I've named him Bartholomew in the meantime.

He has a severe bacterial infection, possible septicemia. He needs antibiotics and probably a vet. You can start administering tea baths in the meanwhile.

That's what I was thinking. I unfortunately don't have access to medical care. I'm gonna try tea baths for now. He hasn't moved much either. With his mouth agape I also fear possible impaction. The poor boy is in worse condition than I suspected.

You can also try methylene blue baths if tea baths don't work.

why was she fridged at first?, was she properly acclimatised before putting in tank?
make sure the tanks temp is low enough.
use holtfreters or modified in the water.
