I recently changed from big rock to sand , but one of mine axies didn´t like so he start to eat the sand he is now very swollen, he is pooing sand all over the tank , what can I do to help this guy, cause I´m noticing that he is doing a lot of effort

my axo have his cloaca is very open and he is very coloured, his gills are bright red what can I do?

João - All I can think of to do is remove him from the tank full of sand and put him in a small food safe container and put him in the fridge.

I'm sorry, I have no idea why an axolotl would stuff its self full of sand.

Please keep us posted as to its condition.

he was used to walk on the tanks glass , so as he started to walk on sand he got stressed and without any reason he started to eat the sand, but I think that if I remove him from the sand , it will happen again, once I put him again in the sand , so If he is pooing do I have to worry , or do I have just to wait and see if he gets well , cause he isn´t eating more sand, I think he got it...

João - I was reading other posts and saw you asked about the sand made especially for reptiles, is that what you put in the axolotl tank?

no, it´s normal sand spherical, and now my axie is just fine, and I think he learned the hard way that sand is not a proper food...

this is the sand that I´m using, I think it´s ok, cause they eat some but the little bit of sand that they don´t spit out doesn´t seem to cause constipation.
