okay so, today my cat was in the back garden playing with something so I went over and took alook to find it was some sort of lizard/newt?? its dropped its tail and only seems to be small. He/she has a snake like head and hes dark green with like a snakey/crocodile type pattern on him. ive found some ''common newt'' pictures to look like him but im not sure.
like i said he is only small around 3 inches long not very wide atal but it very lively.
Anyone have any idea of what type of newt (if he is a newt) that he/she could be? Is sexing a newt the same that applies to Axolotls? Appropriate accommodation? Any help would be greatly appreciated i need to know a lot!
Also ive been told that some newts can be toxic and really dangerous however, i live in England and wouldn't think this would be the case? Please enlighten me if i am wrong :) Thankyou guys!

Not to worry guys I think it's best if I release him, i thought I could keep an eye on him for a few days first just incase my cat had caused any harm that you can't see with the naked eye. But I guess he seems lively looks lively have tried him with a tiny earth worm but weren't interested at this minute but maybe it's because he comes out at night (so I read) :)

Hi
As Jaffa Cake said it is a lizard - the Viviparous Lizard also known as the Common Lizard probably as the Sand Lizard is incredibly rare and can only be found on specific sites in places such as Dorset and other areas with a lot of heathland. You can release him in a nearby meadow/heathland area with long grass and quite a bit of sunshine if your garden is unsuitable. They don't actually need a body of water as they usually drink dew from plants.
He or she probably wont eat in captivity without a basking spot and more area.

Hope that helped

Thankyou guys, I released him/her yesterday back into the farm land that he was brought in from. I thought he looked a bit off from a newt but found pictures if newts that seemed to have a similar pattern so I just assumed haha. Thankyou guys :)
