Hello I have some fbn that seem to have been in a little altercation and one of them lost an arm and a bit of his shoulder. I searched but didn't get any results. What exactly am I supposed to do to get "him" to grow it all back? Please try to use canadian terms as I am a noob and don't know how to convert that stuff. I have it in a smaller plastic container with like half of his hight of water is this right.

I know they will regenerate I was just looking for like how I should care for him till he heals?

I got a better look at my fbn today and his shoulder is still ok its just the arm that's gone. In its place is a little pure white bone that would end where his elbow is. He is able to lift his head above the water he is in. I am still unsure of how I should care for him till it heals? Please tell me what I have to do with him to give him the best chance of regrowing the arm, I've look on the site but the only thing I keep finding is "if the conditions are good he will regenerate" which isn't helpful at all.

basically the most you can do for him, is keep him in the best conditions. ie. good housing. desired water conditions (ammonia, nitrites ect)

If he's having trouble chasing food, tweezer feed him. As long as he's kept in the best possible conditions (as he should be kept in anyway) his arm will heal fine.

if not refer to the links above.

Give him normal housing conditions. he should be able to swim and walk perfectly fine.

Keep him in the small container with water about the same height he is. Change the water and wipe out the container daily. Offer food, but remove it immediately if he doesn't eat it.

If the bone is sticking out, it can still regenerate. It might happen a bit faster if you get a vet to cut off the part of the bone that sticks out. Be sure that the vet does NOT sew the wound closed, as this will prevent regrowth.

Are you sure these are ordinary firebellies, or perhaps paddletails? Some species are aggressive and you may not be able to ever keep them together. See:

sucky!

So the newt I had, that was missing the leg passed away last week while I was out of town looking for work. I had asked one of my room mates to take his leftover food out for me because I fed him just before I left, and she forgot to. Then she forgot to feed him two days later and he died! I arrived home to a wonderful smell, only to find his container was extremely dirty and he was dead and stunk to high heaven. I do not know how she did not smell the spoiled bloodworms. It was so rank. On the plus side me and my girl and our other room mate are moving and she is not coming with us to the new place. The worst part is that his arm had grown like half to two thirds back!

Re: sucky!

Sorry about that :(
At least that roomie isn't coming with you! They sound very irresponsible, also it seems improbable that just a little neglect would kill the newt. how long was she looking after it for?

she was looking after them all for a week and a half. And I don't think she did any of the stuff I asked her to do. But atleast the other 7 are all ok. And my tiger too. Thank god.

It doesn't seem like she did. At least you didn't lose everyone yeah =] still sad face :/

well as it sits that stint with the roommate didn't only affect the wounded guy. One of my paramesotriton hongkongensis died like five or six days ago don't remember which day it was. When I found him in his hide he was dead. And I hadn't actually seen him specifically eat the food I'd given them since I got back but I fed them the same amount as always and it was gone so I figured they both ate. After I dug him out there was a white goo that came out of his mouth does anyone know why?
