Hey all Im new to the site...I just got two fire belly newts two weeks ago. one is about 3 inches and the other is considerably smaller at about 1.5 inches. My set up is all aquatic with a small land area for lounging and a ton of plants, some real and some fake. The bigger newt is doing great, its active and loves to eat. The other however refuses to enter the water or eat. All it does is hide under some leaves and won't even eat. I have tried a variety of food sources. The bigger one will eat anything but no luck for the little one. Does anyone have any suggestions on getting the little one to eat? I starting to think it isn't going to last too long.

Mybe he is stress, some animals do not become active or like to explore the area before they go active it may take a couple of days to settle down.Make sure it's not sick which is a possiable reason.

Have you tried live foods? Baby crickets? Live black worms?

Your firebellies are wild-caught, and some are either so mistreated during import/wholesale/retail that they never recover. Or else they just never adapt to eating in captivity. Some of your problems are addressed in the FAQ: http://www.caudata.org/cc/faq/faq.shtml
