I need help figuring out what species my 2 salamanders are. I am pretty sure they are WB unfortunatly. I got them from a friend who got them from a family when he bought an aquarium from them. He didn't have tha interest enough to find out what species they where and the family claimed that they where tiger salamanders (yeah right!).
When my friend realised I where more interested in them than he was, he decided that I should hav them instead. And ever since then I've had BIG troubble trying to figure out what the heck they are.

With a lot of help from my friend Grius, he figured out they where C.e ensicauda. I happily saw the likeness from caudata culture and went along with it until I wanted to figure out what sex they where and looked even closer.

That's when I realised that they where a bit different. One of them has smooth skin and the other one is coarse. I read over and over again on caudata culture and looked at the pictures but it doesn't say that it should be that big of a difference in skin from male and female. They said that C.e.ensicauda and C pyrrho look very alike exept from the skin but I'm still not sure.

I'm pretty new in it all but is eager to learn more about everything I can so I can make the best for them. I really hope at least one of ou caudatas out there can help me!

P.S I'm sorry for the wall of text and for the big pictures.

Hi, you have 2 very lovely C. e. ensicauda! I see the difference in skin smoothness, but it doesn't look like a big difference to me. There can be variation between animals, and I suspect that some species may get coarser skin as they get older. I don't think it's a male/female difference, just a bit of variation.

Oh thank you so much!
I heard the same thing from my friend but I still wasn't sure.

So maybe the coarse one is just a bit older. I think they´re both female since the tail on both of them is longer than their body.

Now I only need to come up with som names to these cuties of mine. =)
