Hi I was wondering if someone could help me with which subspecies my alpine is. I was told when I was given them that they were spanish alpines and after doing some research and I think these are alpestris cyreni does that seem right to you, I'll try and attach some photos....

The spots on the throat look like cyreni (alpestris doesn´t have any, and apuanus has a lot more).
What worries me is, where did you get them? are they WC?? If they are...it´s very sad...

You are right Azhael, I had overlooked the throat coloration. My apologies...

I'm new to this I was given them how would I know they were wild caught? I thought I was just giving them a home from someone who didn't want them anymore!? It worries me if they were wild caught but from what I understood I don't believe they came from outside the UK before I got them. If you could advise me I would like to know.

Hi

M.A. Apuanus has the spot on the throwt indeed, but they allso do have the greenish band on the flanks, like you male does have.
If i needed to bet, i´d say Apuanus, but i am no expert on all subspecies.

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
