Help with fishless cycling

Added pure ammonia to my tank yesterday tested it and it 8.0 lol! Is this a little high ??? I thought I was aiming for half of that : / tested again today and still the same, am I better off doing a water change? It's a 64 litre tank

I'm also new lol but I have been doing extensive research and am getting my tank today. Ammonia you want zero. How much pure ammonia did you add? I think the recommended amount is one drop per 3 or 4 litres (I had to convert it from gallons lol for gallons it's one drop per gallon). How long have you had your tank set up? Or are you confusing ammonia with the pH because the pH should be between 6.0 and 8.0.

Forgot to say sorry I'm just starting to cycle it, it was the first lot of ammonia I've added, I added about a tea spoon

According to this you don't want ammonia higher than 5ppm so you need to do some water changes to get it down.

Yes 8ppm is a little high. You want to aim for around 4ppm. Do some water changes to bring the ammonia back down.
