Hello!
I just moved my axel into a new big tank 114 litres and extra long so he can move around. The only issue im having is filtration. I got a strong filter in because I know how messy these babies are and im getting another friend for him (when I can find one!). Any ideas on how to make the water coming out of the filter less intense? :violent:

Aiming the water flow at the side of the glass can reduce it.
I've heard of things such as stuffing the tubes or outlets with cotton.

No I wouldn't do that. You risk killing bacteria and stressing the axolotls even more. I would just switch to one or two sponge filters.

You can't turn a biological filter on and off. All of the beneficial bacteria will die and pump poison into the tank. Stuffing tubes to slow down the filter is hard on the filter. Baffle it to the side of the tank or have it flow directly into a rock or ornament. Some filters can also be fitted with spray bar to dissipate the output.

+1 on the canister filter with spray bar running continuous length of tank, you can get the most flow possible with out a bad current using this method.
