Hey, my axololt has been doing this weird thing twice now where I've seen him sitting high in the water. One night my partner accidently turned off the filter & in the morning my axie was up the top of the tank next to the filter. I almost had a heart attack! Needless to say filter has been on since then with me always checking! But tonight I went to feed him & he was sitting on top of one of the artificial plants not moving! Why does he do this? Is it normal? He's down at the bottom now & moving. :(

It sounds like normal axolotl behavior. They like to explore all areas and levels of the tank.

they like to float motionless so its normal

It's weird isn't it? But yeah, sometimes axolotls are just too lazy and just float. However, if he/she can't stop floating, then it may have an infection.

Mine does that sort of thing all the time. Floating halfway up, one little 'hand' steadying himself against a leaf. Just chilling.

It's one of the things I find supercute!

It did take me quite a while to get used to what his normal behaviour was though, everything odd the first time you see them do it makes you second guess their health.

Tell me about it! There were minor hysterics as my daughter thought Pob was dead! He was just sitting very still. Definitely different from my dogs. Hehe. No doubt we will go through a variety of panics but as long as I've got a caramel latte I'll get through it. ?

They're such bizarre little creatures. Sometimes mine likes to gulp a bunch of air and then just floats around on the top of the tank. But then I think she forgets she did it, because she'll desperately try to swim back to the bottom but then float right back up. Then she gets all grumpy. Haha
