Ok, a while ago i posted on why my newt after i change his water, stays on the land for three days, almost like clock work. And the thing that really bothers me is that he is almost lifeless as he just lays there for a couple days, sometimes curled in a little ball. Then exactly three days later he's back in the water, normal as can be. So this time around i put this stress coat stuff in the water that is supposed to get rid of chlorine, chloramines and any toxins, and is even supposed to help them a little. I also let the water sit overnight this time. But, just like the other times, he's on land again, and is somewhat lifeless, moving almost not at all. Does anyone know why he keeps doing this?

How much water are you changing? I'd recommend doing small (5-10%) water changes every 10 days or so, and trying to keep the water clean by manually removing debris that the filtes misses with a turkey baster or gravel pump. Also, I wouldn't use stress coat as a dechlorinator. It's great stuff when it comes to fish injuries, and I use it for bathing my crabs to aid molting, but I don't think your newt should have to live in it, as I've heard people mention that it should not be injested by some animals. Keep letting the water sit, but use a standard dechlorinator like aquaplus to get rid of chorline and chloramines, make sure the temperature is very close to that of the main tank, and don't change all of the water at once. Hopefully that will encourage him to stop avoiding the water!

I think the newt is having a normal reaction if all of his water is being changed at once. Partial changes are the way to go.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
