Hi,
I need some help please.
I found sperm in my tank yesterday and I have 2 females in my tank so I am guessing I may end up with some eggs in the next few day?

I have noticed 1 female has been climbing the fake plants which I have never since her do and the other who always hides is walking around checking things out. And both are looking plump

So my question is They are in a 4foot x 18 inch tank and I have 6 in there am I better off getting a larger storage container eg substitute tank set up with hides and air pump and fake plants and move the girls or girl in there. I could do 1 each I think they are about 52 lt but would that stress them out to much?

I just thought if they have their own space it may be easier and less stressful?

Any ideas

Thanks Felicity

This has just happened to me the day after majorly cleaning and redecorating my tank.

Eggs and **** everywhere, stuck to everything!!

If I had some bare tanks ready to go I would certainly have filled them with water from the aquarium and moved her across with a bunch of plastic or real plants.

I have no choice but to totally dismantle the lot to get all the eggs out, and even then one of the others could start to lay.

As my breeding efforts move forward I will think about being ready to do just this, but wonder if it would upset her too much just before laying.

What colors are yours, by the way?

My beautiful leucistic and this one not sure what it is so I added a pic (its fully grown now )

I wont have enough tank water for both of them would it be ok to set it up with mainly fresh water with prime? Have it well aired before I put them in?

I think moving a female when she's just about to lay would be too stressful. I leave my girls in their main tank and remove the eggs once they are done. And believe me they will lay on ANYTHING - real plants, fake plants, ornaments, the floor, any pipes, the airstone, and I am sure that if an axie sat still long enough they would get eggs laid on them too.

If you remove anything you don't want eggs on and add long leafed plants it makes it easier to collect the eggs. Some people use a deconstructed shower puff for a female to lay on - they like to grip on to what they are laying on with their back feet (think chameleon) so providing upright structures makes it easier for them.

And your pic is a lovely pale wildtype.

Thanks AuntieJude for your reply  turns out it was a false alarm this time :(

I think the pictured axie is actually a melanoid, given the lack of ring around the eye.
