This is Waffles he is about the size of my pinky and we have had him 2 days. We know something is wrong he has no fluffy gills and was missing limbs. I'm worried he limbs re growing are see thru unsure if normal or sign of problem also very tip of tail. Not sure if sign of anything fungal or bacterial or just areas of damage that are regenerating. Please help. Also pet shop suggested paraguard just in case and I discovered this is poison to axolotl so I did water change and hope I caught it in time. Before I do any other type of treatment, since that completely backfired, I wanted to be sure it was needed. Thanks.

Regrowing tissues do tend to be somewhat transparent. Be sure to keep the axolotl in excellent quality water and provide it with nutritious food and hopefully it will recover quickly.

Poor guy pet stores don't usually know how to properly care for axolotls and give bad advice. What are you feeding him? They may have provided bad feeding advice as well. He will make the best recovery if you can get him live black worms to eat. They can be ordered online and need to be rinsed daily and stored in fridge in shallow water. They are the most nutritious source of food for axolotls along with earthworms, but he is too small for those. And do get test the water daily until you have a stable cycle as the gill won't recover if the water quality is bad.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
