I know this doesn't really concern newts and salamanders, but I was at a local reptile show when I fell in love with a musk turtle (stinkpot) hatchling. He is a little smaller than a quarter. He was so cute and there was only two left. He hapily takes bloodworms, but not pellets. The show is only one day so I went and bought him. Unfortunately I am leaving for a 6 day vacation in a week! What do I do to feed him. I have heard that u can use 7 day fish feeders. Is this true?

Thanks for the help

Evan

Hi I dont know if it's true I keep a slider and he's on a diet of shrimp and a pellet specific for turtles

Juvenile stinkpots are strictly carnivorous. Find it some live blackworms to hold you over.

Just a thought but have you considered taking the turtle with you? He should be ok in a smaller "travel tank" if its only for six days. And then you could easily go with the frozen blood worms.

Otherwise I agree with sticking a bunch of live food in there.

I wouldn't take him with you. Just get a pet sitter. Hatchlings must be fed daily, couldn't just leave him as you said.

Also, do you have UVB lighting?

Turtle/Tortoise hatchlings are very sensitive to their environments and care at this time. It's probably only about 4 weeks old. I wouldn't leave food in the tank for that duration, it's just going to foul the water.

As much as I hate relying on others, I believe that getting a trusted friend or neighbor to come in and care for him would be your best option. I know that leaving pets is one of the hard decisions to make.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
