I went to harvest tonight and there was not enough shrimp to feed my babies tonight! Im panicking! Is there anything i can do?! Im going to check back in a few hours to see if anymore hatched(hopeful thinking) and i panicked and cut a bunch of frozen bloodworms and have been trying to hand feed them but only two ate some of it.

There are a few brine shrimp in the water that i can see them eating but it wont last them long..

You can temporarily use the old hard boiled egg yolk through a sieve.

Any place there have black worms?
Grindal worms, vinegar eels, daphnia?

Really? Hmmm will they eat it?

And nope! I wish or id have some here for this exact situation. Ive been looking around like a hawk for anything else i could feed them but still no luck. Bbs eggs or frozen bloodworms is all i can find(which i think is absolutly rediculous!)
Do you think they would eat the bloodworms? I mean two ate some(their belly turned red instead of orange)
I was scared this would happen. But i was doing so well!

Do you think they would eat fry food? They are 1week old so probably wont register it as food yet, but could i try it? I have a bunch of fish food and pellets and i dont know im desperate :( its 9:14pm so everything is closed till tomorow

How are u cutting the bloodworms? I'd take a razor blade to them and shave small parts off. 1 week is very young. I've had luck with frozen bbs and daphnia if u can find any. Also, be sure to keep up on the water changes. The blooodworms spoil water quickly. Goodluck!

I cut off 1/8 of a cube and them chopped it up as small as i could. Some pieces were big some were tiny. Im keeping a close eye on them and it seems like most of the bellies have red in them so i am taking that as a sign they are eating them! That is such a relief!
Now that i know they are eating without them being alive i may take a trip to the petstore tomorow and see if they have any frozen small worms or anything small for them.

Its at least a bit of good news! Yes i feed my juvies frozen bloodworms and i only keep them in the water for an hour tops(normally its all gone before then but i always check) because they make the water gross so quick!

So i think i will do another water change in a couple of hours, go see if i can harvest anymore bbs and if not feed them a bit more bloodworms(and hope for the best)
Tomorow will consist of the most epic search for food i can feed them! I will raid this city for anything! I dont want to be in this situation again im scared :( unfurtunately i have school tomorow so i hope the bloodworms they are actually consuming will be enough to last them
*crosses fingers*

On another note. Is it possible i missed a baby durring a water change and didnt realise? Im missing a axie! It didnt die, i dont know what happened. I do always check the water before it goes down the drain but i dont know i guess its possible. :( r.i.p little myr whatever happened. I feel lile a terrible mommy!
I guess i did awesome for a full week, a little set back!

Take a deep breath. you are doing fine :)

Do you have a local online add like craigslist? could you post in there that you need daphnia?
any local fish forums? you can post for grindal worms, or daphnia there too.

Did you start up another culture of BBS? probably should do two if you can.
The tutorial at the top of this forum section is pretty good too.

since they are so small, they tend to only like going for moving things, so sometimes swirling the water a bit when you add food that isn't moving will work.

I'm fairly new to this, but had a bad time with bbs shortly after I started hatching them. The hatch rate dropped off drastically, and I freaked out! I added Epsom salt to my sea salt mix and it's done wonders! Good luck!

Yeah we use kijiji here and ive posted on local fish forums and kijiji for live food even called around a few places and nothing.
Ive been doing daily cultures of bbs, i got some reallygood advice on keeping a solid supply and it worked perfectly till now. I must mot of been adding enough eggs i had barely any to culture tonight.

I used te shaving the bloodworm technique and they are eating it so its a relief. Im still worried but im trying to stay calm!

Thanks for everyones help :) its helping me stay calm!

i dont know if youll find this helpful as you have so many but i used this when i had nothing else, i just used a little pipette and dropped it on their head, but it is quite messy so a water change is needed afterwards

Thank you! My next trip to the pet store will involve lookig for this! Though they are actually doing quite well with the shaved bloodworms. Most of them anyways. I am still trying to harvest bbs but i dont know why im getting such a low count! I have to supplement with the bloodworms every feeding because i get barely enougj to feed them

Update! Problem is averted! I got a good harvest this morning!(yay) and they were so happy to see all the bbs! Im relieved but we are going out today to see if i can find anything! Its doubtful but ohwell
