hey..
was wanting some help.
havent had my axie very long, probably a few weeks now and he has been fine, last night i wasnt home so my gran ma was looking after my axie.. she rang me the next day to say she found him at the top of his tank upside down with all his legs up in the air.. she thought he was dead so she put her hand in and touched him then he moved.. she fed him like normal and he ate.. any possible reasons why he was upside down on the top of the tank, i didnt think they spent much time up near the top, especially upside down

Sometimes when they have gas they float to the top - but myself, i have never heard of them floating upside down. But it could be possible. . . (?)

Hi Sylence, could you tell us a bit more info on its diet, and water temps/quailty etc...

Then we will be able to help you out a bit more.

yep, we need alittle more information about what he eats and water conditions in the tank.

hey..
thanks heaps..
he eats a block of beef heart every second day.. as the aqarium shop said to feed him.. his tank is kept at approximately 20.c.. the tank is always kept clean and is not over crowded.. its only him in it, the tank is a 2 foot tank.. it has a cave for him to hide in and two plants, including a filter. When the weather starts to get a bit warmer, or the temp begins to rise a bit, he gets small bottles of ice put in his tank to cool it down until they melt.
So far he hasnt done it again, he's only done it the once.

Feed him a varied diet. it is bad for them to have a beef heart and liver only diet.

Try pellets and earthworms with beef heart once every week or two.

Yeppers its that mammal meat again! every time i tell you. Whenever somebody has a problem with floating it always seems that they are fed solely on liver or beef heart. Sylence i would get him off the beef heart and try him on earth worms. Earthworms always work!

As for the pellets make sure you feed him those on a piece of slate(this is once he gets back down to the bottom). they can be quite messy! syphon the area or suck up the extras with a turkey baster when he is done feeding.

Hope this helps, good luck!}

hey..
cheers heaps guys..
he's seemed to settle again now and has gone back to normal, he's not floating anymore and hasnt done the upside down thing again, he seems happy again..
thanks heaps

hey..
just thought id let you guys know that i went and got some worms for my axie.. tomorrow is the first day that i will feed them to him so after that i will see how he goes..
cheers

good!
and be sure to only feed beef heart as a treat. The pet shops have no idea what theyre talking about!
one time i (just for amusement) asked what they recommended feeding axolotls. They said cooked rice!!!
that just goes to show that u should never listen to the advice of pet stores!!
