Meet Axl. I am trying to learn how to create a thread but also trying to get help at the same time so, bear with me.

Axl was attacked on the foot the other day by his tank mate Rose while searching for a lost food pellet. After that, he crawled up into the furniture and hid. Upon emergence, his tail is patchy!!? Does anyone have an opinion as what could have happened to Axl?

water 20 Nitrate
0 Nitrite
7 PH
temp 67 degrees
unaware my 5 in 1 strips did not read ammonia.

That piece of furniture has been cleaned and a 20% water change. Someone told me they dremel the insides of tank furniture...never thought of that! I'll do anything to help Axl but the exotic vet is almost 100 miles away and they are currently in a Covid closure. Axl's diet and energy level are stable and his foot injury is not that bad. :(

a better photo I hope. He's still happy and got his first tea bath....

He doesn't look stressed to me. I can see iridophores (natural shiny pigmentation) on his tail, but I'm not seeing "patchyness". Young axolotls tend to nip at each other a bit, but most bites, even if a limb or gill is nipped off, aren't serious and heal fairly quickly.

Thank you dearly for your observation, I was so worried about it turning into something serious! On the advice of a breeder I'm going to add an almond leaf to the tank and do a few good cool water changes this week, and hope it clears.

My best to everyone on this forum..and to their lotls as well!
