Hi

I have an african dwarf frog and he is sick, he has very small white spots covering his sides and legs. He is not eating and not moving around very much. I think this has happened because i had to re-cycle my tank and he has been in smaller container with other fish with no filter.

I have white spot treatment for fish, but i don't think i can use that on him can i?

Please let me know soon, his life is in your hands

If this is an African Dwarf Frog it is probably a fungal infection.

I would put the frog(s) in a quarantine tank.

You will need an extra quarantine tank and plenty of aged dechlorinated water.

You will also a bleach solution......1 part bleach to 10 parts water.

This is used to clean out the tank after you place the ADF into the Lamasil AT bath.

The bleach solution is needed to disinfect the tank and rid it of the fungus.

Rinse the container well until the smell of bleach is gone.

Let air dry.

You will alternate tanks for the course of 10 days.

The following is a 10 day treatment.

The treatment is very tedious but is said to be very effective.

I used the treatment as a preventative measure when I first bought my ADF.

Purchase Lamasil AT 1% medication for athlete's feet in a spray can.

It must say "AT"

The normal treatment is to:

1) Mix Lamasil AT 1% 10 squirts to 200 ml dechlorinated room temperature water.

2) Let frog set in water for 5 minutes.....you may need a timer.

3) Receiving quarantine tank should be set up and ready with aged room temperature dechlorinated water.

4) Feed ADF 2-3 days a week.

Let me know if you have any questions.

hey thanks a lot for this help, i will give this a try and report back later

Hello larn,
what happened with your frog?
Last time iI have got very good experience with catappa to treat infections. You can put the catappa leave directly into the keeping tank. There is no risc for healthy frogs. It's prophylactic for them, too.

Had a question that I just want to be sure of. My marbled newt is a little over a year old and has started to develop and I noticed that he is starting to swell a little below his abdomen. I guess I’d like to know if they are his testes or if I need to be concerned.

Hello!!! I'm new to this website and idk how to ask a proper question on the designated spot yet, so I'll ask here, I'm a first time Axolotl owner, and my dad used to run an aquarium store, anyways... Orca, my Axolotl, seems to loose parts of her toes on one limb from time to time, I can't seem to find the problem. Tempature is well, she doesn't seem to have any infections or anything, though. And I'm not sure if I'll be able to find a vet in Brazil for amphibians that are in a reasonable distance to drive without stressing Orca out too much

Hello, I’m hoping for some advice please. Our Axolotl is about 7 months old. Till now no problem. Eating, growing and happy. He’s simply stopped eating. Everything looks fine, his gills look healthy and no apparent signs of sickness. He just swims past the pellets and bloodworm like he can’t smell it. I don’t think it’s a blockage either. Any ideas and suggestions for treatment would be much appreciated. Thank you!
