I am getting on an airplane in less than 2 weeks from NY to CA. Can my newt fly with me? Is it safe/healthy for her? If so, what precautions should I take for her? Please let me know ASAP!!! Thanks

Call the airline! They are SOOO picky about everything these days that it would be dangerous to rely on advice from a forum. I'm sure the airlines must have requests about flying with small pets, and can guide you. If it's OK with them, pack the newt in a plastic container with a damp paper towel. Make sure you never let it get hot (in a hot car, for example). A mini-cooler might be helpful. If the airline says no, then send the newt by overnight shipping to someone in CA.

Yes, I carry animals in my luggage that is going under the aircraft all the time. Just use a deli cup full enough of damp moss so that it won't shift around.

In summer, I wouldn't do that. Sometimes luggage sits out on the tarmac in the sun before or after loading on the airplane. In addition, all checked luggage is now heavily X-rayed.
