I have a grey tiger salamander and he has a bad leg. The leg is swollen about 3 times more usual. I have no idea why this has happened to him. The area where he is kept has not changed in any form for about 4 1/2 years, other than normal maintenance. The front left legs has a hole in it and has drained before and now he has a second place on this same leg. He still eats good. If you can please give me some advice as to what this could be and how it could be treated. I would appreciate any help that you can give me. }

I've been thinking about this and I can only think of one idea as an explanation of it - perhaps some sort of parasitic infection? I seem to recall seeing areas of swollen skin on tiger salamanders in photos and reading that they had a parasite of some sort.

Firstly, I think you should give an amphibian-savvy vet a look at it and ask his opinion (and probably come back and tell us what he said before making a decision). To be honest, if the leg is in a bad way and it has a hard time using it, I would be in favour of amputation.
