Hello all, this is my first time i bought a newt. i am not too sure if it is a paddletail or a CFB. so i need help in Identifying this. i bought 2 of it, seem to me like they are paddletail.

and the bigger one seem to be bullying the smaller one. they been in my tank for 2 days already. i hope the water level is find for them. both of them are eating well, been feeding them brine shrimps and blood worms. got a hiding location for them.

a few questions, is there a way to stop them from fighting each other? when the bigger one is ard, the smaller one refuse to eat.

and is it normal for them to be constantly glupping for air since they are paddletail, shld they not be able to breathe under water?

the store i got it from only labelled them as newts -.-

am i missing anything impt in my tank? my newt seems to be drowning -.-

They are paddletails. They can be VERY agressive and territorial so separate them if they fight or they could even kill each other.
Also, separate them from that fish, it´s not a suitable companion for your newts.
The tank is way too small. You´ll need at the very least a 40l tank, preferably bigger (60l should do nicely). If you wish to try and keep them together then go for a bigger tank and make sure to have lots of visual barriers and hiding places.

They can take oxygen through their skins but they can´t "breathe" underwater. They need to gulp air regularly nevertheless. This species comes from cold streams so they need a decently strong current and well oxygenated water.
Make sure to read the caresheet (you can find it in the links in my signature).
They need EXCELLENT conditions right away to recover from all the stress of the importation, so more space, more water, cool temps, a current and separate if necessary.

It looks like a Pachytriton to me, so that means Paddletail. I have 4, they are awesome and angry.

I think that paired paddle tails are supposed to have 20 gallons of water a piece with several hides and use smaller pieces of worm to keep from fighting over large meals.... I think your 3 gallon aquarium is a terrible set up for one newt much less two.. I would recommend daily water changes at the least with that set up...I,m no expert but I have researched them a bit...

ok thank you all for your advise, i think i need to go grab a larger tank, more hiding places and a pump.
