I have three juvie axolotls (with a divider separating the smallest from the others) and two of them seem to be doing great, but I am concerned about my third guy. He stresses easier than my other two, but there are two main things I’m concerned about:
1) he has shorter gills that are pretty fluffy, but the veins on one side are really red. Should I be concerned?
2) recently (2 days ago) I realized that he had some white stuff on the tips of his toes. Could it be fungus? Today, I realized it looks like he’s missing a toe on that foot. He is also regrowing the tip of his tail from a previous altercation with his tank mate. I moved him into a smaller tank (a 20 gallon) so I could keep a better eye on him.

Hello!
Yup, that definitely looks like fungus on its toes. Fungus is usually dependent on how frequent you do water changes. I recommend that you drain at least 50 percent of you axolotls water every week. To get rid of the fungus now however, a salt bath should do the trick. As for the gills, it could also be in regards to water quality but it is possible it could be caused by water temperature. What temperature do you have your tank at normally?

I normally keep my tank at about 68degrees F
