I noticed today that one of my Cynops ensicauda has a swollen leg. I assumed it was an injury, but then noticed a red patch on its side as well. Upon closer inspection, I see small red dots on other newts in the tank. My suspicion is that they have Aeromonas hydrophila. I will be performing a full water change and plan to visit a vet as soon as possible. In the mean time I'm hoping for some insight/advice from anyone else. Thank you very much.

Hi,

My tiger salamander has puffy, red legs right now, except his legs are limp, along with his tail. The vet is thinking he has red leg (which I think is the same as septicemia) or he has metabolic bone disease caused by poor diet. I'm going to the vet for a follow up tomorrow to take an X-ray to rule out the latter.

For the redness, I've been reading that Baytril (antibiotic) is used on the skin. My vet has me giving my sallie .25ccs of Baytril 1x day orally and I'm going to ask about getting enough to bathe him in as well. Hope this helps in any way and hope your newt gets better.
