hi all,
i just bought a new axie as a friend for my other one. I bought her(i thought she was a he) and only yesterday i have found eggs on one of the plants, i also have no idea how to look after baby axies. I am only new at looking after axies.

welcome lisha!
are you sure they are eggs and are they fertile? if they are and you want to keep them take them out and put them in a large container or bare tank with a air stone. raising young axies takes alot of time and money, daily water changes, constant live food etc. i suggest you cull this batch until you feel you are equipped enough knowledge wise and set up wise. have a look at www.axolotl.org you may find something of interest on there

Um... glad i'm not only one who's experiencing babies after not having my two guys for long! thought they were both male, then realised that one was actually female and even then i got it wrong!

Was very fascinating to watch her lay them (even though she had me worried a few times) but now i don't know what to do!! The eggs are still in the tank until we decide what to do with them (have now bought a small 'fry' tank to put them into) but we're totally unprepared for this as i didn't think my two were old enough to breed yet...

I hate the idea of culling them (even though we don't know what to do with them) but i think it may be the best... Would pet shops be willing to take on some of the hatched eggs do you think?

If you are willing to ship the eggs, you could probably find people in the UK to take them. But you need to hurry, as you have only about 2-3 weeks until they hatch. I doubt that a pet shop would take them, they are very tiny and delicate and pet shops don't usually have the level of care needed to raise them.

Warwickshire... I did think about taking them to the pet shop i got my two from, but after having been in there the other week and seeing the state of the other Axies 'left over' from the 'batch' i got mine from (which are at least half the size of mine anyway) with bits missing, looking very pale and unhappy I am understandbly very dubious about offering to them...

We have now seperated the eggs (can actually see them forming which is very cool!) and we'll see how many actually hatch...

if you want to get rid of some of them,i would be happy to take some of them and pay for the courier etc.i have a seperate tank that i can put them in and look after them. email me on chrisjack231@hotmail.co.uk and i could give you my mobile number and we could sort something out from there
