We live in PA ,we were putting our flowerpots in for the winter and when we picked one up off of the slate patio this little guy was under it.He didn't look well we brought him in put a little water and a rock etc in a shallow glass conatiner covered with saran wrap with air holes.he/she is looking much better it is really cold here outside can we just release it ? We do have a lot of woods/bushes and a running spring here .I read they like to winter with other salamanders is it unusual to fins one alone this time of year? Any advice would be great I'd hate for it to die.

It was very good of you to come here looking for advice!

The best thing to do would be to release the salamander in the morning near where you found it, close to leaf litter/rotting logs under which it can escape the frost. It should be fine on its own from there. Good Luck!
