HELP! Bumps on axolotl's tail, can't find any info.

Big bumps on axolotl back end

any info will help

Thank you,
Kyle.
Can we see some pictures? Or a description of them at least? Also, what are your water parameters? Nitrites, nitrates, pH, ammonia, etc. What's the water temperature usually? Have you used any products/chemicals in your water? How large is your axolotl/how old?

I got the axolotl last Wednesday of a website called angelfish aquatics
I've never heard of them before.. I'll check out their site. Thanks for the picture. I'm not sure what the bumps could be since I'm no expert or vet. Were they there when you got it? I know axies can be bumpy sometimes but their tails are usually smooth I thought.

Is your tank fully cycled? What are the what parameters? What do you treat your water with? What's the temperature of the water?

Yeah I thought this also, every axolotl video or picture I've seen they been nice and smooth. Yes they were there when it got here. They don't look very healthy tbh. But I think their acting fine, it doesn't really move around, just sits in next to a piece of wood. Eats earth worm fine without fail and bloodworm and pellets also. I just don't understand...

Current temp 18.3c, its like 28 outside. I use love fish tap safe dechlorinator as tetra aquasafe has added iodine wich is harmful to lotls from what I understand.
And the parameters are fine I just use 6 in 1 tetra strips.

I have 30m of hose in a mini freezer using a weak pump to push water through and then back into the tank. Wasnt gonna be spending all that money for an aquatic chiller

That's like the perfect temperature so no worries there. The golden standard for dechlorination is Prime by Seachem. You may want to look into that. Also, strips are generally not very accurate. I used to use them but was told I should get a liquid test kit instead. The API Master test kit is great. It's much more accurate than the strips; I would suggest you consider purchasing one. They last a long time (and so should your axolotl) so it's worth it.

I understand. I tried the same sort of thing but it didn't work out. Glad it's working for you though :)

Is this the website you got your axolotl from? I looked it up. Their "green" axolotl (which is a wild-type) looks like yours.

Yes sir

Yeah was just making sure, anyways dude have a good day
Thank you, you too. Just keep an eye on the bumps for now and let us know if they get better, worse, or stay the same. If you plan to purchase an axolotl in the future, I would probably recommend purchasing from somewhere else. Your little guy had quite a few nicks taken out of his tail. I'm sure there are some good sources on here for reliable breeders in the UK.

He is a cute little guy though

Axolotls are pretty chill animals. Mine doesn't do much either. He swims around in the evening sometimes but during the day he just sits there. It's a good sign that your axie is eating well.

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
