Hi everyone

I've had my axies for about a year and a half now and i got them from this guy that used to come into my work and I wasn't really sure how to look after them but read some threads on here and that was great help and their still alive so i guess I'm doing something right!

In the time I've had them they've laid three lots of eggs i tried to raise them the first time and went to pet stores and asked what to feed them cos the eggs had hatched but they were no help and told me they'd die and just were rude to me and i didn't know where to buy any live food.ive read that i should feed them daphnia etc so if anyone could help me out this time becasue they've laid some more eggs and i'd really like to try and raise some! any tips and help would be really appreciated!

My first tip is for you to look at the rearing page of Axolotl.org, there you find a lot of helpful information on this topic. Also, there is a very good article on microfoods on Caudata Culture.
Young larvae can best be raised with live food, my first choice for newly hatched larvae are brine shrimp (Artemia salina). But be sure not to by any live ones, they usually are too big. You should find some brine shrimp eggs / cysts at the pet shop and you will have to let them hatch in a hatchery. The brine shrimp themselves need 24-72 hours to hatch so you should start the culture in time before the Axolotls hatch.

Good luck!

Yep i have had a look at those pages but my problem is the pet store said they didnt have anything that my babies axies could eat.. all they gave me was frozen brine shrimp and i gave that to them when they hatched but they didnt attempt to eat it or anything it just sat at the bottom for days and i'd tried dangling it infront of them aswell and they still didnt try eat it.
I knew they wouldnt eat the frozen brine shrimp cos it said on here but i tried anyway so they definitly need live food but i dont know where i can get some because my pet shops dont have anything so maybe somebody knows somewhere i can order it or somebody who breeds them or just anything..

Do they sell frozen baby brine shrimp or frozen daphnia? If so, you could use an air stone and it would give the food enough movement for the axies to think it was alive.

Hi,

You can try crushing axie pellets into a fine powder to supplement. Meanwhile, i will private message you the links to two companies in australia that sell live artemia, daphnia etc.

hi there
just saw this thread and I hope I can be of some help as I noticed you are located Perth WA
I am raising 60 baby axies and had the same trouble as you, pet stores that said they had stocks of live feed when in fact it was frozen.
However after many phone calls and useless trips all over the metro area I did manage to locate a shope that sells live bbs that are newly hatched and just perfect for our babies !!!
They are located in Wangara and they are very cheap at $5 a bag and $6 for eggs to hatch
They went through the process of hatching the bbs with me ... although I opted to just go back every few days for a fresh batch of live bbs.
They are called Ocean Reef Marina and are located on Buckingham drv
If you need any more info plz message and I will help if I can (in regard to shop location)
Also i noticed you said the daphia sat on the bottom for days ?
You need to water change every day or you will have a huge mortality rate.
I am by no means an expert just speaking of my own experience and the advice offered on here.
Water changes are vital ... I found as vital as the feed and if left for more than 24 hrs the water fouled and we had losses.
Hope this helps

Hi. Have a look online for brine shrimp eggs. I got mine from ebay. Not sure how easy the eggs are to get hold of over there. I got loads. I've raised 2 batches of babies on them and they only cost me about £3.50. I've had to add the salt myself. You can also buy pre mixed packets which have the salt included. I think hatchin your own would be a lot cheaper than buyin them. But make sure you can successfully hatch a batch before relying on them. Good luck! Mel
