I cannot get Daphnia anywhere atm, usually its really easy for me to get hold of, but no where has it. my local pet store told me its because of the cold weather and that they would have some in soon, well i've been trying to get hold of it for the past 2 weeks and still nothing. i've just had of babies hatch out (plus more to come) and need to find food for them fast, what else can i feed or does anyone know where i can get some daphnia ??

Thanks
John

Baby Brine Shrimp would also work - but take time to hatch. If you can't get any live food, you can get frozen BBS or daphnia and use a gentle air stone to circulate it so that it appears to be moving, but expect that some won't take to it. Hope the daphnia come in soon!

Buy time by cooling the eggs and babies as much as possible, the warmest bit of the fridge will do, usually the front top shelf, while you get and hatch brine shrimp or source daphnia.

if they have just hatched out then don't wory to much there yolk sacks should ceep them alive and fed for a few days.

Brine shrimp are the best, but it'll probably take 24 hours to be ready. I ran two at the same time 24 hours apart from each other.
Congratulations on the eggs .

I hatch a batch encapsulated brine shrimp in about 10 hours. I place a heat-lamp with a 80 watt incandescent bulb and keep it right between 81 and 82 degrees F when hatching. I double the water recipe, but only use a 1/16th tablespoon of eggs. I'm only raising about 20 axo larvae. The extra room and decreasing the temp slightly after most bbs have hatched seems to keep them alive longer. (directions I use are from the Caudata Culture larvae food article) Someone please let me know if my alterations in the process are bad practice.
