Hello everyone!

I've had my axolotl for around a week and a half now, and i noticed the feathery parts of her gills have started to curl. The Ph is a bit high at my tank, i am looking for the best ways to lower it (any recommendations?) but all the other parameters are good. Could it also be a temperature issue? I ordered a fan, but up until then, the temperature has remained 20-23, its a bit of a heatwave here.
Could the combination of a higher Ph and temperature be the cause of it? I'm just worried, i want her to have the best life possible.

Thanks so much in advance!

All the best,
A.

Hi

Yes high pH and temperature could be causing gill deterioration.

Is your tank fully cycled ? What are you ammonia, nitrite and nitrate readings?

To cool a 5 fan cooler or 2 deskfans pointed at an angle down and across the water will make a huge difference.

I would tub your axolotl and do twice daily 100% water changes with cold clean dechlorinated water. Good food will help as well.
