Hello everyone! I'm new to the site and I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself, my roommate, and my axolotl. My name is Katie, and my roommate is Alex. She and I are both art students and illustrators. We recently adopted an axolotl, who we have lovingly named Steve:
Steve's a little goofball. He likes to go around and explore his tank, but if he bumps his nose on anything, he'll just stop and not move for a moment, as if someone cancelled his action. After a moment or two, he'll head off on some new adventure. He also prefers low gravity moon-bouncing to his destinations as opposed to swimming or crawling.
His name is a reference to Captain America. His legs don't seem to serve much of an evolutionary purpose, so when he wiggles them around to try to swim, he looks like he's saying "How do these work?!", similar to how Captain America (Steve Rogers) might look at a cell phone and say "How does this work? How do I cellphone?"
This is the tank setup we have for him. My dad custom cut a slate bottom for the tank for easy cleaning and some rocks to keep the decorations from trying to float around. The larger log-type thing serves as his hiding place, which he seems to like a lot The light on the top looks super bright in the photo, which it isn't as bright as it looks. The LEDs of the light were far too bright for him, so we put artist tape over the lights to dim them, and now he likes the lights much better ^_^
Anyway thats all for now! We just wanted to say hello and that we're excited to be part of this awesome community!
