I am new to this amazing creature. Have a few questions:confused:

I have set up a tank with regular house water and letting it sit for 24 hours. Goal is to have two gfps in it on friday. I have read alot in the past few days and hear conflicting comments on where to buy and how to set up tank all the way to cycling the tank

Some say tank must be set up for 30 days prior to axoltols injection in tank.

The guy i am looking to buy from in Downers Grove Il says that no filter is needed and to set up a tank 24 hours before just to declorinate it. Then 100% water change once a week.

But many on this forum say never that drastic of a water change and to have set up for so long due to the right nitrate nitrite and amonia.

I would think a 100% water change once a week would stress out the lil guys.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I dont understand why you didn't get any responses to this question. You are trying to cycle your tank with the axolotl in, volume of the tank will determine the amount of water you remove as this will determine the concentrations of ammonia etc , I would do a daily water test and remove the amount of water to bring it within acceptable parameters. Do a daily partial water change rather than a weekly 100% change, it may take about a month. Check threads for nitrogen cycle and tank cycling for detailed information.

Re: Hello Axoltol lovers

I set up my tank the day I got my axolotl. You just use aquarium dechlorinator leave the water for 20 minutes wi the filter on to put your axolotls in. If I were you I wouldn't worry about all the technical stuff and your axolotl should be fine (mine is). The tank will mature its-self after a while of the axolotl being in there, just do %20 water changes each week and you'll be fine.

You need to check threads concerning maturing your tank and the nitrogen cycle. Once a week 20% change on a maturing tank is probably not sufficient.
