I've housed my newts outside in a brick built shed. I've been monitoring the temps on their tanks which so far have not dropped bellow 16 even with a sharp frost. With more bad weather due in, I was thinking of getting a parafin green house heater to take the chill of the air in there. My concern is the smell from the fumes, would this have any effect on the water quality? An electric heater is not an option because of the power rating to the shed. Is there anyone who can shed some light on this subject.

Thanks.

I am not quite sure what kind of fuel paraffin is but I have had to use a kerosene heater before. I just made sure the tanks were covered and there was a little ventilation to the room to prevent carbon monoxide build up. I checked the tank water to see if I could see any soot on it and I never did so I assume it's safe to do. Now keep in mind this is just my experience with kerosene but I imagine paraffin would be the same.
