Its cooling off here in Sydney and the Haliea chiller is reading 14.9 deg C. Honk and Swishy seem to be doing fine and the RCS are still wandering around. What is best...pop in a heater to increase the temp a bit? Not fuss about it and leave it through winter, even though I'd expect the temp to drop lower still to maybe 10 deg? If heater, how do you get the heater not to conflict with the chiller. What do others do?

Cheers
David

Just leave it. Even 10c isn't too cold for axolotls. I've had mine in tanks that (accidentally) skimmed over with ice before with no ill effects.

Just leave it.

The axies will be fine until it goes below 5 celc (which it wont) and the shrimp will survive down to 10 or so celc i'm told (havent tried this, just heard they are pretty tolerant of the low temps if they have to)

The shrimp might not breed at the lower temps though.

I have my shrimp breeding tank heated to the ideal temp, but they survive fine in the chilled axie tank at 18 c. Will they breed at 18 c or lower? I dont know, they have always been eaten before they had time to breed :)

Where is your tank kept that it will go down to 10 celcius?????? Hope it's not your bedroom, and if it is i hope you have an electric blanket :)

Hey David,
Is the room stable all day, or is it heated at night when people get home from work/school/etc?
And bren, my tank is out in my bedroom and it was at 13C when I got up this morning (similar geographic location), and we're nowhere near the coldest months yet!

I would leave the axies in the tank. Just to be on the safe side though I would move the cherry shrimp to a tank in a warmer room during the coldest months.
