How are we all dealing with the heat wave in England with our little axys??

I was stupid enough to go out for 3 days and leave my parents to look after my baby, not knowing it would be this hot.
His tank got to 28C!!!!!!!
I swear my axolotl is some sort of immortal though, because he isn't dead, after a lot of other stuff happening to him.

Fans broken and buying a new one tomorrow, I'm currently floating 3 bags of ice in there and all of my windows and doors are open.

For those of us who can't afford chillers, or don't really need one because we're in a cooler climate, how are you coping???

(parents also won't allow me to store him in the fridge, which has annoyed me greatly)

Keep the windows and doors closed during the day to keep the heat out and open them at night to let cool air in. Keep the curtains and blinds closed during the day. Keep rotating the ice bags during the day - one in the tank, a few in the freezer and change them as soon as the one in the tank has melted. Try insulating the tank or wrap it in wet towels. Use fans. If you have a basement, move the tank there as it's cooler there. Get one of those mini fridges so your family doesn't have to deal with an axie in the fridge if it gets that bad again.

One good thing about the cool and rainy summer this year in Finland is that I haven't had to worry about my tanks at all. :D

I've just posted a very similar thread! Really struggling to keep the temp down :( Is fridging a good idea in these circumstances, especially considering that the heatwave will probably only last a couple of days?

Anyone got any idea why poor baby hasn't died as well???
like, 28C is deadly, and he's fine.

The bags have cooled it down to 20, so I'm sticking with the bags until I can get my new fan tomorrow

Personally, if I was allowed I'd fridge him I would. There's so many risks with hot water and next to none with cold water.

Well the last week was a struggle! Mine reached 24c at one point with wet towels and fans facing the water. Back down to 19c now, phew! Hope everyone else managed.
