Heat stressed?

Does my axi have the mucus splotches that are characteristic of heat stress? My tank is currently at 23 C/72 F and I'm trying to get the temp cooler. I'm rather worried about him.

The splotch that I see is on his cheek between his eye and his gills.

Possible try to lowe rthe tempreture,two ways i do it with ym newts is Ice packs, two of tehm on in freezer, on in teh tank, just switch them around to keep tank cool. Good fro a short solution, not so useful as a long time solution. Hopefully it might give you more time to find a proper cure

If you are going through a heat wave you could also put your axie in the fridge for a holiday until the heat wave goes away or until you can arrange better cooling of your tank. A fan blowing air across the water is a good way of cooling the tank(it never worked for me). Floating frozen 3lt bottles in the tank helps but you have to change them a far bit to keep the temp stable. The only way to keep your water temp down at a regular temp is to buy a chiller.

I've gotten permission to move him down to our rec room, it's in the basement so much cooler down there. Hopefully this will be the last warm temperatures for the year, it's pretty temperate where I live.

I'm mainly concerned whether he's now exhibiting heat stress, so that I can treat the mucus patches right away. He is eating like a pig, which (from reading other posts on this forum) is usually a good sign.
