I don't know how. Buy my newt escaped. The lid was on, it was secure and somehow he is gone. I have looked everywhere for him, but I can not find him anywhere. :( I'm crushed, I can't stop crying. Is their any hope of finding him or is he gone for good?

Check the darkest, coolest places you can find. Also, stick a cookie sheet full of water in a dark secluded area of the room and then check it every couple of hours to see if the newt has shown up.

Put shallow water containers around your house so that if he is around he can get to water.

How long has he been missing?

I cover ALL holes in my tank (even where the wires go in and out of the tank).

I'm not sure how long he has been gone. His tank is kept under my turtle 55 gallon turtle tank in the stand. He was there last night when I went to bed and then this morning when I went to check on him he was gone. We are draining the turtle tank so we can move it and the stand carefully and see if he has gone under it. I don't know how long he has been out or even how. The lid was still secure when I went to check on him but he is just not there. there is no holes in it It seems impossible for him to escape, but somehow he did =/

It happens. I thought I had a secure lid when I first keeping newt. But it still escaped. Luckily for her, I found her.

He is not under the stand =/ I don't know what to do. This is horrible =/ I check the entire room so far. The tank is against the back wall of our family room. Checked under the couch up the walls behind all the furniture. I don't know where else he could have gone. I put some water dishes in random places just in case, but I dont know where he could be or how to help. I have never had an animal escape before ever =/

Have you tried looking around small items? It might not be hiding under big furniture. I found mine near a box in the shelf where I have the tank on top. I moved things around and eventually it fell down and I found it.

I have had a caecilian escaped and was hiding just below the tank under an object. It make sense that your newt should be nearby the tank.

What newt is it? And how big? How long have you got this newt?

He is very small I have only had him a week. I looked everywhere under everything and anything. I cleared out everything around the tank looked under everything. I looked for all the toys and books and everything else in the room. I have no clue where he can be.

Have you made absolutely sure it's not in the tank? Checked under the rim where the lid meets, moved everything around, checked inside ornaments (if you have them).

I agree with Justin - take that tank apart from top to bottom. I once thought one of ours escaped. A week later, he appeared and had been inside the base of an artificial plant - way up high. While I was certain I checked it, it was so dark up there that he must have blended in.

Good luck. I know how stressful this is. Keep the water out in case he is out.

I'd double check around the tank. I don't know how many times I've found a lost Toad in the tank despite looking for it. You might have been so panicked you just overlooked him.

Yes, I agree. You just dont know how good they can hide, especially if it is small. I just lost three larvae because they hided in the net and I wash the net after I transported the larvae... then they are gone with the water down the sink.... how unfortunate.....

Checked the tank, stuck my fingers everywhere. shined the flashlight everywhere. rechecked everything. my biggest fear is probably true there is a air conditioning vent many many feet away. he must have found it =/

I "lost" one of my newts once; turns out inside the ornament was a spiral he could climb up and hide in....
