Haven't posted in a while, so thought I would share my tank. I hate taking pictures with this crappy camera that I have. Not much right now. It's changed quite a bit, but I'm still doing things with it. I'm saving up for a plant light right now. My plants seem to do alright

. Eventually I would like the rocks to be covered in Java moss. More rocks will be added eventually too. The sword plants do alright too

People come in and wonder why I have two tanks in the living room. I tell them one is for the axolotls, the other is for the Fire Salamander. I like both setups

And my Axolotls seem to enjoy the plants. I meant to get a new snail today because once again, my snail died. I don't have luck with snails though they get plenty to eat. Just my luck I guess. Didn't get to the store. Some brown algae grows on the glass. I'm saving up for a plant light so hopefully I will have that up soon. Need to get some more ghost shrimp too. Tank might look a little cloudy, just did a cleaning.

Wow..... I think the tank is gorgeous....looks sort of mysterious. And why are you complaining about the camera? i think the photos are fine..... lovely tank!!!!

dont really use mine anymore.
so what kind of lighting are u going to get ?
T5's are the go and lucky u living in usa cause they seem easier and cheaper to source there. i priced a set for my 5 footer up yesterday here in Aus and going to cost me over $1000 for what i want

Wow, those are beautiful! (the tanks AND the axies). It was a really good idea to take those pictures with the rest of the room dark - it really makes the colors in the tank pop out at you. I'll have to try that!

I have all of my tanks in my living room, too. I'd love to have the space for a tank-room like some people on this board have; but I'd rather have them out where I can see them all the time, where I can enjoy them all the time

I know what you mean about tanks in the living room
Flatmate has a 2ft x 16inch x 18 inch yabbie tank in the lounge. I have a 2 x 1 x 1 axie tank in the adjoining lounge (6 feet away from his) and then theres my oscar tank (soon to be ugraded to a big tank - 4ft prolly) in my room, along with a goldfish bowl.

Worse still, I've decided to go buy some guppies today thinking I'll breed some live food for borris the oscar and my axies.

Rheann - idea about the snails - was speaking to a woman at one of the petstores (a woman who actually knows what she's talking about too, not so much axies, but fish) and asking about snails because I've just put a couple in my axie tank (see the difference already, good lil cleaner-uppers) and she said the most common problem is that they need some calcium - for their shells. They'll get some through food, but she suggested a calci-block be added from time to time to help strengthen their shells. Now I don't know what the axies would think of it, but possibly an idea?

Thanks for your comments guys

To keep the plants healthy I just trim off broken or damaged leaves. I also trim back the roots on the sword plants that are brown. White roots are healthy and grow faster. I'm going to fill out the back more with some more sword plants and also get some others that I don't know their names. All pretty much low to moderate light plants.

Rob - Sorry, I have no idea on the lights. They came with the hood. I'm saving up for some plant lights though so I can add in some more plants that require high lighting. I'll look into the T5's

.

However the lights I have seem to do well for the Sword plants and the grass and the others. What I seem to have problems with the most are plants that are rich with reds, purples, or dark greens. The grass are dark green but they've been doing pretty good

I'm a dunce when it comes to lighting.

I do have good luck though with low lighting plants lol.

Lovely tank Rheann. And your axies look great!!!
I like the plants Rheann, looks so simple.. but its satisfying. I think im over the heavy planted tank, after looking at your tank
happy.gif
It honestly looks great!!

What size if your tank Rheann?

happy.gif

Actually.. no need to answer that Rheann.. lol
Ive just remembered reading one of your posts which you said was a 60 Gal. No wonder it looks so big.. coz its HUGE LOL

hi i think your tank looks great i think now i want to upgrade my axolotls tank when he gets bigger , i too think your photos are fine,

cheers
Sarah

Here are some more pictures. I took all of Bobo's eggs off the Anacharis (elodea)and I put it back into the tank. The tank was lonely without it
happy.gif
. Pretty Soon I'm going to get a plant light. It's going to be expensive, but well worth it. Regardless if I have the lights on or off, The camera just won't pick up that pretty background I have, or the Anacharis very well

Yesterday I also trimmed back the Sword leaves and their roots again. They love it when I do that. Trimming the roots and regularly trimming the leaves helps the plants to flourish. It is best to trim roots under water just like you would flowers.
