Question: Have a new 4ft tank for my 2 axolotls,How long roughly

Does it take to cycle the new tank,without Axolotls?I have a testing kit for nitrates and Ph testing kit
My 2 adults are in a 2ft tank which I got from the previous owner 3 weeks ago,they are happy in it but of course it is too small,I am scared to do this all wrong.I am reading through as much info as I can from this site and from the book I have bought,so much info that I dont know where to start
Please can you give me some pointers??
I have another filter that was used years ago for fish and that is going into the new tank with sand and some live plants
I hope that when everything is perfect and the new tank is all ready that I would add a third axolotl of the same size to the 4ft tank,would that be ok,or do I add it to the 2ft tank for a month before they join my other 2 in the big tank?

I've answered on your other thread.
In addition you will need a master test kit which tests for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate.
It can take 6-8 week to cycle. Sometimes a lot longer.
