Hello got 30 eggs hatched, brine shrimp will be ready tomorow or next day.

Ive read mixed views of when to start the first feed.

Is it the day after or 2 or three, ive heard all because i will get some back up food incase the brine shrimp do not hatch in time !??

And Ive split a few bad eggs trying to get them out and one escaped and was mutated and covered in fungus by the time i got it out. Can this release 'spores' onto any of the others?

And foods to feed them
Small daphnia
BBS if they hatch
chopped up bloodworms very tiny
egg yolk boiled and mushed up tiny and wave it about in the water.

Is this right and anything else?

I havent had much luck with my deshelled bbs even though all the parameters and heat are correct. Ive set up a new one today with 1 litre of water 6 drops of artemia per 250 ml and 4 rock salts that come with the nt labs kit.

So ive ordered 10 packs of sera which i had so much luck with!

Thanks for any help, I really will appreciate it.

Skip the egg yolk. That's an absolutely last resort.

Usually, dud eggs are just fine when left in with the others. I rarely pull mine.

Start feeding babies around 24 hours after they hatch. Sometimes they're ready to eat, sometimes they're not. It depends on how fast they absorb their yolk sac.

Ok thank you and i know its a last resort but worth mentioning if worst come to worst xx

Hi I have got the nt labs bbs, mine are hatching in 24 hours, I'm using sea salt from asda, 1 teaspoon salt 1 lt water, and shaking enough eggs in so I can see them in the water, just sat on the kitchen counter no direct lights on it at all, there hatching in just about 24 hrs,

Ive had absolutely no luck with them! im glad someones eggs are hatching, i will try asdas sea salt, Ive put four rock salts in because thats what it said on the packet!

Such a palava, I hope they arent hungry so worried im starving them right now! x
:(

I'm just about to set up a BBS culture. I've already got daphnia producing so have a back up in case they dont work. I reckon my eggs have 48 hours ish to go :D

Edited to say I'll be using marine salt as I have some here for a brackish tank I have set up for Mudskippers

6of mine have hatched so far obicat so yours should be any time now :D

As for the nt labs must say having no problems. I'm keeping the bottle in the fridge, don't know if that makes a difference. Or the fact that my local herp shop got a bottle special in for me. (yay) so it wasn't stuck on a shelf, again don't know if that makes a difference.

As for the instructions that came with the bottle I couldn't make head nor tale of them, so I just went with the pictorial someone did in here (sorry can't rember who:rolleyes:)
Heaped tea spoon and litre of water. My kind of maths

Want to start some daphnia but all the tech type talk bamboozles me,

So if I just brought a bag of live daphnia from lfs could I grow more from them or s
Do they have to be special ones?

Hope all goes well

You should be able to culture daphnia from your LFS stock. Just don't overharvest or you'll crash your culture.

Still none hatched here, although it must be anytime now, they are huge and look fully developed. I swear they are watching me when I check them :p

My daphnia is grown from LFS ones. Hes pretty reliable at getting live food in, but I keep these as a back up just in case.
