Hello.
I have some probleme to decide if i gona use Fluvan 105 or 205 in my tank. It messure 100x60x46cm LxWxH and i will only have about 20cm deept, but also some landpart in this tank. Can you controll waterflow in those filters? if so i think i take 205, just to make sure i get extra clean nice water.

I have to order the aquarium today so please give me a answers fast if you know.

This is for C.ensicauda,

Regards.

You could get the 205 and put some sponge over the intake and that might slow the intake. Mark has a review on the 105 and he said that you can the flow. If you click on the filter on the website it might tell you a little about the filter. It says a little in a different langauge.

You can easily adjust the flow on the 105 using a simple lever. I turn mine down to just a dribble when I feed blood worm which prevents them being sucked into the filter.

Thank you Mark for so quick answer! Now its time to order all equipment.

I don't use a filter at all. A good layer of gravel, a lot of plants, snails and perhaps some shrimp will do fine, if you 'won't have too much newts in a 100 cm tank.

I completely agree with Joost. In a big tank like that, as long as you have lots of plants (which the newts will thank you for), a filter is completely unnecessary. Since these newts prefer still water, by not using a filter and therefore having no current at all, you´d be making them happy xD

Okey, and i who did the order yesterday that allready is on the way hehe.

So this filter will do more harm then good you think? I intend to give them a still water habitat :) But as Mark said , i can easily slow down the flow to a level that maybe dont give a bad current, but i dont know.. It´s hard when people have different opinions. And also a probleme now when my order have left the shop:/

Only good for wallet if i can get back 95euro though.

By the way. Which snail and shrimp species do you recomend?

"Viv"
Strange, i did not saw your post untill now. Thanks for the tip.

Regards.

You may be able to add a spray bar to the exhaust, Grius, to diffuse the water a bit on your Fluval. ;)

As for snails: I prefer Ramshornsnails and Melanoides tuberculata. As for shrimp: I keep Caridina and Neocaridina species.

For your filter: You can use it, for a very slow stream. Or like Carlo's idea. I do have little waterfalls in some of my tanks.

By spray bar do you mean something like this?

Say that i reduce flow so much that i almost dont notice any current, will that then effect on filter kapacity in a bad way? otherwise its easy to take a plastic piece, drill some holes and attach over exhaust opening. A less noticeable spray bar:happy:

I shall see what i can find.

Thanks.

Exactly, Grius. Using a spray bar should eliminate the need to turn down your flow thereby giving you max filtration without creating too much of a current.

Sounds good. I will do some expriment so that everyone get happy ; )
